Phuong Thuy Profile
Phuong Thuy began performing in front of an audience during her 10th grade year at Le Hong Phong high school (formerly Petrus Ky) in Vietnam. In May of 1984, Phuong Thuy and her family came to the US and settled in San Jose.
In 1985, with encouragement from her parents, Phuong Thuy accepted an invitation to sing in a fund raising event for a temple. She was subsequently asked to join De Anza College VSA and started to sing at her school as well as at San Jose State and many other community events. Not long thereafter, she began singing professionally at Cafe Kim in San Jose. Although her given name is Diem Thuy, while at Cafe Kim, Truc Mai, a fellow singer, thought she should have a stage name so Truc Mai gave her the name Phuong Thuy.
Phuong Thuy slowly built a name for herself in the Silicon Valley, where she became a familiar name in local club scenes. Phuong Thuy is a regular at Lido night club in San Jose. She has also performed in other states as well as Europe and Australia. Phuong Thuy says she really likes Australian tuna (although she doesn’t like fish) as she always makes a point to eat this dish while she is there. Other favorites of hers are steaks, prawns, coca cola and ice-cream. In her spare time, Phuong Thuy likes to dance, work (yes, work), go shopping, and watch a good movie.
Phuong Thuy has appeared in several May Productions music videos as well as some by USA Productions. One of her favorite song is, Tien Anh Trong Mua, a japanese tune with vietnamese lyrics by Lu lien. She has performed this song in the video and CD titled Thung Lung Hoa Vang recorded in 1994. Her latest favorite is Dung Xa Em Dem Nay by Duc Huy and she is requested to sing this song almost every weekend at Lido club. Her latest CD is Tiffany Phuong Thuy, Forget Me Not 4 released in Thanksgiving 1996 by Hai Au Production. Her next project, Lien Khuc Nhac Tre, with the collaboration of Si Dan, Diem Lien, and Kieu Nga will be released during Christmas.
